World’s languages Sergio Núñez Guzmán
Translators can’t be translators without a good linguistic description of the languages they are working with. Translators can ask themselves how different each language is? And how similar they are? The answer is as accurate as the linguistic knowledge the translators have. Translators therefore depend on the descriptions of the world’s languages.
The human being produces sentences with a subject (S), a verb (V), an object (O). The similarity is that all the human languages have S, V, O, but not all the languages have this order. We can see it in English S, V, O, but there are languages with other possibilities like S,O,V as in German or Latin. What kind of syntactic order does the Spanish language have? The linguistics have discovered other syntactic orders. We have the differences in the syntax of each language. The syntactic possibilities are bigger than we can think. The meaning of a sentence lies on its totality, so what is the meaning of its syntactic order? To put the subject or the object or the verb in the first place has a meaning. What is the meaning of this syntactic order? How does a language enclose the meaning in the sentences? We can see how the human mind is working into the language. Can we figure out how the lost languages worked their languages? How the human mind of the lost languages enclosed the meaning into their sentences? Which meanings were enclosed? Is life’s meaning here? Can we see it?
Let us see what humanity is losing when a language is lost.
In the USA, Latinos are being identified by their appearance, and they are losing the Spanish language, their culture, their identity. They are neither Americans nor Latinos. What are they? They don’t speak Spanish nor English. They speak Spanglish. What is Spanglish? Is this the future of the Spanish and English languages? Are we going to be identified by speaking Spanglish? Is this the natural evolution or process of world languages? Man’s intervention is a definitive way to conserve or lose languages. Spanish and English are very well preserved in books, libraries, records, and so for, but what would happen if there weren’t any books, libraries, records, and etcetera? Can we imagine such a catastrophic event? Humanity would have to begin its evolution process all over again.
Right now archeologists are trying to decipher the Babylonian tablets, by doing this, they are trying to establish the true origin of the Bible and Hamurabi’s laws. Did humanity create God? What is the origin of the civil laws? We are talking about human civilization. There is a cosmos with a natural order, but the human race destroys this order with wars and we need peace, so men can be able to meditate about their own past, present and future in a language that other men can read about and understand, but if there is not any language, our own world will create a spiritual emptiness which will bring chaos back to us.
